My Journey with the Chemistry of Essential Oils

When I first started out in Aromatherapy 16 years ago the courses available, or at least the two I took, did not emphasize the chemistry all that much and at first I did not pay that much attention to the chemistry behind these wonderful gifts of nature.  However as time went on I realized that there was a definite benefit to understanding the chemistry of  I could see the benefit of having a better understanding of what the synergies could do, so a couple of years later I signed up and took a third course that was geared to the chemistry of essential oils.  Unfortunately for me I had never taken much chemistry before and this sort of just made my eyes glaze over.  I absorbed enough to pass the exams but I still did not really 'get' the chemistry and most of the information was filed away to be looked at, at a later time.

Many of the books available had a small section on Chemistry, but I generally moved over these sections pretty quickly in my eagerness to get to the sections on creating blends and reading more about what the authors had to say different oils were good for.  However my eyes truly opened to the benefits of understanding the Chemistry of Essential Oils when I was introduced to Rosemary Caddy's Essential Oils in Colour in 2000.  I purchased her two books and blending calculator CD, and the chemistry of both the individual essential oils and the blends of essential oils became tools I could really use.  As this was something that I wanted to share with my students and graduates I purchased a License from CC Profiles to teach the Essential Oils in Colour courses and I have been offering these as in class workshops ever since.   As time went on, I was repeatedly asked by some of my students and grads as to whether I couldn't offer these in a home study version as well and after getting Rosemary's approval I created the Caddy Chemistry Home Study Version.  Once a year I still offer an in class workshop on the Caddy Aromatherapy Chemistry and the workshop this year is set for July 17 - 18.  If you are interested in learning more about Chemistry and how it can be an additional tool in your use of essential oils, and you have the time perhaps you'd like to join me in this workshop.  If you can't make the workshop, then of course there is always the option of the Home Study Version.

Rosemary Caddy's Books and Blending Calculator can be purchased directly from CCProfiles in the UK.
