Apparently the idea of creating a special day to honor fathers was initiated by Sonora Smart Dodd in Spokane, Washington. She got the idea in 1909 while listening to a Mother's Day sermon. After the death of her mother, she had been raised by her father and she wanted to let him know just how special he was to her. He had made all the sacrifices that parents make and to his daughter he was a courageous, selfless and loving man. As her father had been born in June, she chose to hold the first Father's Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on June 19, 1910.
A National Father's Day Committee was formed in New York City in 1926 and Father's Day was recognized by a Joint Resolution of Congress in 1956 and in 1972 President Richard Nixon established the national observance of Father's Day to be held on the third Sunday of June.
For all Fathers and the families that love them:
What Makes A Dad
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad

My own Special Diffuser Blend for Father's Day: Frankincense 3 drops, Lavender 5 drops, Lime 5 drops and Rosemary 2 drops.
