Essential Oils for Fall and Immune Boosting

Here in British Columbia, Fall has definitely arrived and this year it certainly doesn't look like we will be getting any late Summer days anymore.

With the cooling down of the temperature it's a good time to make sure that one keeps one's immune system well boosted. Time to pull out the oils that are so good for this and use them in diffusers, body lotions or creams, inhalers etc. Prevention is always better than having to try and get over something later on.

Great oils to consider include: Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Lemon, Manuka, Niaouli, Palmarosa, Ravintsara and Rosemary. There are others, so you can come up with something that is both effective and smells good to you.

A great way to use these on the go and prevent picking up germs from others is to carry about your blend in a spritzer bottle. If you want to be able to carry it around with you a 30ml (1 oz) bottle would be the best size, otherwise you could make up a larger amount to keep around the home. Using a 30ml (1 oz) spray bottle add 15 - 20 drops of your essential oil synergy to 30ml distilled water or hydrosol. Shake well before using. This can be sprayed as a mist around you to kill off any 'invading' germs. You can use it on your hands to keep them germ free, or on surfaces that have germs.

If you are one of those people who don't like using public washrooms and touching things many others have touched before you, you can always whip out your spritzer bottle and sanitize things before you have to touch them. I'm sure if you think about it you can come up with lots of other opportunities for using such a spritzer.

A fresh smelling immune booster blend that I like:
30 ml distilled water, Eucalyptus 3 drops, Lemon 6 drops, Palmarosa 6 drops, Ravintsara 4 drops.

Lemon - Citrus limonum

Here in normally sunny Tsawwassen, it is an overcast windy morning - the forcast says that the sun will shine later but right now it's looking and feeling a whole lot like Fall and far too soon too to my way of thinking.

It's time for an uplifting blend and today I reach for sunny Lemon to lift my spirits. I do have a mini profile on my web site's Articles page on Lemon if you're interested in reading more.

On a subtle level Lemon (Citrus limonum) helps to increase inner joy and optimism. Lemon clears and cleanses the room. It also clears emotional confusion and invigorates. It helps to alleviate fears of emotional involvement and promotes joy. It can promote objectivity and mental clarity and focuses consciousness. It helps one to receive and understand intuitive information. It can be used when the etheric energy system of the actual physical system is low. It dispels sluggishness and helps to clear negative blockages and revitalize the energy. It can be warn during the Full Moon to attune with its energies. It is used in purification and healing blends.

Generally considered non-toxic, non-irritant and non-sensitizing. Phototoxic avoid exposure to sunlight or UV rays for at least 12 hours after use.

My happy blend for the day: Lemon 5 drops, Bergamot 3 drops, Lemon Myrtle 1 drop.

Keeping On Track

Today, time seems to have a habit of slipping away really quickly and sometimes even the best intentions get waylaid by life. When I started this blog I was going to post to it in a regular fashion but I'm horrified to see that it has been 9 months since I posted.

In the last little while I have had some personal changes including moving my home and business to a new location and going back to my maiden name. Now that I have settled again I think it is time for me to resurrect the blog and try and keep posting on it more regularly.

Perhaps I'll need to resort to a Bach Remedy to keep me on tract ;-) While Hornbeam would certainly help with procastination I'm not sure which one would give me more time in the day or keep me on track when 'life' interferres. Any suggestions? I do have a listing on my website on Bach Flower Remedies if you'd like to play.

I guess the best way to get back on track doing anything you want to do is to just start again and do a little bit every day or every week. So I'm going to try again. I don't promise to post every day but I will make the commitment to post more often. Hmmm what essential oil blend could I use to keep my commitment going? I'll have to think on that one as of course different oils work better for different people. in the meantime if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Also if anyone has any particular topics they want me to post onto the blog let me know as well. My quarterly Newsletter on the website has a regular format - generally a new oil, a condition and some blends every quarter - but the blog is more informal and so it is much more flexible.
