Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia, Lavandula officinalis, Lavendula vera) is often the first essential oil one encounters. Partly because of its familiar comforting aroma and partly because of its wide range of uses. Lavender, the herb has been used for many centuries and a great deal of folklore has built up around it. Much of the active ingredient in the herb comes from the volatile essential oil contained in the plant.
